Tracking Info

These demos were tracked in three separate sessions: rhythm section, vocals, and then horns. 

For the rhythm section, guitar, keyboard and bass were all recorded direct in, and the musicians played from the control room. The drums were isolated in the live room.

For vocals, both vocalists were recorded from the live room next to one another (full harmony potential, FYI, but works best in a larger group-style recording).

All four horns players were set up in the live room in an arc mimicking the layout of the room, with a bogo between the two saxes to divide the low end from the rest of the group. All four mics were spaced from their instruments by around 10 inches to allow some room spill. The Rode M5 pair were spaced back by around 12 feet and set in ORTF (110° angled, 8-10in. apart). All horns parts were doubled/reharmed, creating that classic section sound.
